The views from the Seattle Space Needle are amazing. If the weather is clear you will be able to see to Mt. Rainier and the Olympic Mountains. Even if it is cloudy, the views of the city are beautiful. The Space Needle website will let you pre-purchase tickets for a specific time to visit the Observation Deck. Another idea is to combine your meal with a visit to the Space Needle. The SkyCity restaurant, located at the top of the Needle, rotates 360 degrees per hour allowing you to see the entire view during your meal. If you dine (lunch or dinner), then your visit to the Observation Deck is included. Just review the conditions on the website – there is a minimum food purchase per person – however this is reasonable when you consider the Observation Deck visit is included. If you don’t go for lunch, The Seattle Space Needle offers a ticket that will let you visit during the daytime and then return that same evening. The experience is totally different at night and if you have time in your schedule, and enjoy visiting locations like the Seattle Space Needle, it is worth considering.

If you visiting several of the main attractions in Seattle in addition to the Space Needle(Seattle Aquarium, Argosy Harbor Tour, Pacific Science Center or the EMP Museum, or Museum of Flight), then consider the CityPASS deal I have used CityPass in several cities and they generally do save money if you are going to visit several attractions.
Time: 1-2 hours
Cost: Up to you
If you are an avid hiker or outdoors person, then you know all about REI. The flagship store is located in downtown Seattle close to I-5. The lower-level parking garage makes the parking easy. Beware, I can lose track of time when in this store, wandering the aisles thinking about new uses for a ‘biner or adding a new Nalgene bottle to the collection – my wife doesn’t believe it is possible to have too many Nalgenes. They have large display areas featuring camping, hiking and climbing equipment. There is even an indoor climbing wall. Check the website for seminars or events happening during your visit.
