We must have looked pretty pathetic. We had been out exploring and shooting photos in Austin and the Texas Hill Country for the day and stopped in Bandera looking for a break. Melissa is three months pregnant and gave me the “we need to take a break” look – she is a trooper, so I knew she meant it. We saw Dogleg Coffeehouse and when we tried to get it, the door was locked. We had just missed the closing time of 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon. As we walked off, looking a little dejected, the manager came outside, found us on the boardwalk and invited us in..like I said, we must have looked pretty pathetic. She made a point of taking care of us and cheerfully one of the barista’s rang up our order of two coffee’s and pastries. They told us to relax as they started cleaning up for the day. We settled into a comfortable and enjoyed our coffee and snacks – Texas hospitality at its best.
They have their own coffee roasted by a company in San Antonio and the pastries we tried were great – the Coffee Cake and the Mudslide Cookie were both awesome. We needed to check in on email and do a little research for the rest of the afternoons adventure, and the WiFi was much appreciated. After about 30 minutes we were ready to hit the road again and continue on our adventure.
The next stop was Guadalupe River State Park and the coffee had us refreshed and ready for some hiking and shooting along the river.
If you are driving through Bandara, TX, Dogleg Coffeehouse is highly recommended. The staff was great and so was the coffee and food. I’m suddenly feeling the need to go back for another round of shooting photos in Texas…Melissa, you in?
