I first visited Earthquake Park in the early 2000’s during a work trip. I remember the view across the Knik Arm towards downtown Anchorage and the amazing views of departing aircraft. I have visited the park several times since, but this was my first visit in winter. We departed out of Anchorage and drove down Alaska 1 towards the Seward Peninsula, stopping often to shoot photos. The trip up to Portage Glacier was on a whim to see if the glacier was visible – the weather that day was low clouds and light snow. We didn’t see the glacier, but Portage Lake and Portage Creek provided many vantage points to shoot.
